The following is a brief introduction to our service and products in the form of questions and answers:

1. What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic system of medical treatment to human diseases with herbs and acupuncture as the major therapies. It is based on the ancient theories of health and disease, and represents an accumulation of experiences of practicing doctors for more than 4000 years. It emphasises the organic balance of all the parts of the body and the harmony of human beings and the nature. TCM tackles the root of problems rather than isolated symptoms. By maintaining a balance between yin and yang, it activates and strengthens the potential power of the body’s own immune system to fight off disease.

2. What are the major approaches of TCM treatment?

Major approaches of TCM include herbal medicine, acupuncture, and acupressure and jar cupping.

3. What are the herbal medicines made from?

Herbs are collected naturally and made into medicine after proper processing for reservation. They are mainly plant parts such as flowers, fruits, stems, roots, and barks. Since all herbs are naturally derived, they are scientifically proven to be safe with only occasional minor side effects if any.

4. Are herbal medicines bitter? How to cook them?

Yes, most herbal drinks are bitter but bear in mind they are supposed to solve your problems. Instructions for cooking herbs are on a separate page.

5. What can you do for me if I simply don’t like to take herbal drink?

You can take our ready-made tablets which are almost equally good.

6. I am taking tablets from my GP doctor. Can I take your tablets as well?

Yes, herbal medicine does not conflict with modern medicine. They can be taken at the same time. Actually, most hospitals in China take the advantages of modern medicine and TCM to cure diseases.

7. What is acupuncture? Does it hurt? How about the hygiene standards?

Acupuncture is a medical treatment in which thin needles are positioned just under the surface of the skin at special nerve centres called acupoints around the body. Normally, acupuncture does not hurt. But a feeling of tingling and numbness is expected. Needles are kept sterilised and needles are used only once.

8. What is acupressure?

Acupressure is also called medical massage. It resembles acupuncture in that pressure is applied to acupoints to stimulate the flow of energy (qi). What is different from acupuncture is that acupressure is carried out by using hands, fingers, thumbs or knuckles.

9. What is jar cupping?

The utensils of jar cupping are jar-like glasses. The purpose of doing jar-cupping is to draw damp and toxin from underneath the skin so that normal movement of energy and blood is regained. The cupping treatment is conducted by thrusting a vacuumed jar (by means of heat) onto the skin. Some harmless bruise may appear in the area but will disappear soon.

10. Are your doctors qualified? And is your service registered?

Yes. All our doctors have received very formal and systematic medical education in China and have over 10 years of clinical experience. Our acupuncture service is registered in Swansea City and County Council and conforms to the legal requirements.

11. What kind of diseases do you treat?

SKIN AND HAIR PROBLEMS such as eczema, acne, psoriasis and hair Loss, NERVOUS DISORDERS such as anxiety and stress, depression, insomnia, panic attacks, GYNAECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS such as pre-menstrual syndrome, period pain, heavy or irregular periods, menopausal syndrome, infertility, JOINTS AND MOVEMENT PROBLEMS such as gout, sprains and strains, BLOOD AND CIRCULATION problems such as high blood pressure, anaemia, high cholesterol, RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS such as coughs, asthma, and sore throat, DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS such as constipation, gastritis and ulceration, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and colitis, ALLERGIC problems such as hay fever, rhinitis, and other problems such as sexual problems, diabetes, migraine and computer vision syndrome.

We can not list all the names of the diseases we may deal with because each disease has its own treatment in TCM.

12. How does the doctor diagnose?

The doctor makes a diagnosis by the TCM method: looking (at the tongue), listening (to the patient’s description), asking (about the cause) and, feeling (the pulse).

By observing and analysing the external signs, the doctor gets to know the problems of the patient. The medical principles are as follows: the human body is an organic whole, with its parts connected with each other by channels. The internal parts are related to the external parts. Pathological problems inside the human body are inevitably shown outwardly as abnormalities in one’s complexion, spirit, colour of the tongue and pulse.

13. What can you do for me if I cannot go and see your doctor?

We provide home visit service (an extra fee may be charged for travel depending on distance). Or we may send medicine to you by post if you could tell us your complaints.

14. Why should I choose TCM?

Immediate start, less side effect and good service.

15. Do you offer postal service?

Yes. If you place an order on line, we will send the medicine by post immediately.
